Sunday Oct. 16

Whew... We survived our near sub zero temperatures overnight. (That's only slightly exaggerated for our Canadian readers who think we are basking in high temperatures.)  Our first breakfast in Italy with our own kitchen and groceries. We enjoyed eating our yoghurt from the Water Buffalo dairy.  After bundling up with many layers of clothes we headed out to climb the hills behind our flat.  Here is a picture of the family home of Mike GioMarco who was born in this house, moved to Canada and ended up in Calgary.  He came back years later to purchase this family property and fix it up as a vacation rental home.
Gia Mia accommodation.
Our host Mike GiaMarco gave us some history of the area and suggested a suitable route to climb up over the mountain and come back via the local town.  There were some marvellous alpine flowers in bloom along the route.

At one point we looked down and there were hundreds of small snails climbing on the foliage eating who knows what on the leaves.

While the sky was mostly cloudy throughout the day the sun chose to break through the clouds and shine a spotlight on special Italian towns so we could enjoy their glory while bathed in a column of light.

Our day ended with our first supper of leftovers washed down with a 1500 ml. bottle of local wine purchased for 3.60 Euro.
