March 5 - Saturday

Today was primarily a driving day.  We left Hawera on route to see Vicky in Levin.  Drove through a heavy rain for three hours to arrive at 'Fantails B&B' around 1:00.  A beautiful garden with amazing bird life.

The owner had an old truck with a very funky camper for sale.  Cathy wanted to purchase it and finish the rest of our trip in style. (It was only $55,000 after all)

We arrived at Chris and Wendy's (Vicky's son and his wife) around 2:00 and had a great visit catching up on family history. Vicky is Trent's father's cousin.  Got that??  She is delightful and we had a great time figuring out the family connections.  One interesting bit of information we had never heard before was Vicky's story about her father.  She told us that he was a tailor in Britain who made corsets and came up with the idea of making women's bras in A, B, C and D cup sizes to simplify the fitting process.

After our visit we went out to look for supper.  Most places were closed already except for a few take out places.  We remembered advice from some Saskatoon friends to check out the RSA (Returned and Services' Association - like our Legion) for a meal.  We were walking along and smelled some wonderful cooking and just in front of us was the local RSA.  We walked in and it was our lucky day.  The evening meal was a buffet with a bounty of choices all delicious for $20 NZD.  All we had to do was sign in and eat up.
