Captain Jan started our day by motoring away from our
mooring by 7:15 am. It was fun to stay in the bridge with him and learn about
the signals and techniques for opening the bridges.
We unloaded bikes, had a short ride to a ferry where we
experienced the Dutch treat of loading people and bikes on a ferry designed
exclusively for us.

You can see that not only young people are welded to their
electronic devices as we wait for the ferry.
We arrive at a delightful spot for coffee where Peter was
able to better his chess partner in a quick game.
We pass into Belgium without really knowing and begin to see
more crops growing. I wondered if
barley was a common crop to feed
the need for beer in Belgium.
I had a nice chat with this fellow about cutting up this Oak
for firewood.
As we rounded a corner on the trail the smell of silage
hanging in the air was a portend to this fellow and his tractor creating a silage
bed for the cattle.
One particularly worrisome moment occurred as the trail was
about to descend under a bridge and a whole herd of Trolls appeared.
Fortunately someone knew the password and they agreed to let us by without
eating anyone.
When we arrived at the ship we were treated to a party atmosphere on the boat. Streamers, music and a beautiful birthday cake accompanied Chef Nicole and assistant Reintje as they welcomed us to help celebrate Peter and Max’s birthdays.
