Did you start your day
with: a little motoring along a canal while enjoying hilarity over a huge
breakfast, make your last lunch and prepare for your last day of cycling on a
Bike and Barge trip? Well, that was our start for a wonderful trip along the
canal to end up in Bruges. Just in case we haven’t had enough sugar we stop for
coffee here.
Some beautiful cycle paths
popped up as we coiled our way through massive tree lined parkways, small
villages and agricultural land.
A stop for lunch afforded a
chance to arrange a group photo of our Bike and Barge participants.
Evidence of WWII was
evident with bunkers and monuments along the pathway.
Entering Bruges was an
affront to our senses, recently tuned to a sedate, methodic, fragrant, birdsong
enhanced, flower laden, rhythmic pedal along a canal. We entered the apparent tourist capital of Belgium as we
bounced and tumbled our way through throngs of people, cars, bikes and horse
carriages to the center of the town. Here we were able to experience the
wonders of Belgium with beer, chocolate and waffles. I suppose this was some compensation for the interruption or
our previous state of Zen.
